For those of you new to Geneva Day School, the Geneva Parents Association (GPA) is a volunteer group of parents who meet to discuss School issues and plan community building activities for our families. These activities include fundraisers, community events and philanthropic activities. The GPA serves as a bridge between the School and Geneva families. All Geneva parents are invited to attend monthly GPA meetings which alternate between Tuesday nights and Wednesday mornings (childcare is provided during meetings). We encourage you to attend these meetings and share your ideas. It’s a great way to get involved in your child’s school experience!
How can I get more involved?
- Volunteer to be a GPA Class Representative:
Liaison between GPA, parents, and teachers communicating GPA ideas/concerns from your classroom’s parents; reporting GPA needs/ideas back to parents by attending monthly GPA meetings; and reporting to the class via email. - Volunteer to be a Room Parent:
Communicate class events and announcements, arrange for volunteers from class to bring snacks and activities for class parties, collect funds, purchase items and assemble a class basket for the Annual Silent Auction, and more!
How can I chair or volunteer to help with a GPA event?
There are many GPA sponsored events throughout the year, which would not be possible without your help. Some events for which we always need volunteers annually include:
- Welcome Back Social–Pass out refreshments to the families. (Friday, September 9, 2011, 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.)
- Scholastic Book Fair–Help set up and sell books in 2-hour shifts and clean up from this 2-day event. (Wednesday, November 16; Thursday, November 17 and Friday, November 18)
- Ice Skating Social–Organize and distribute wrist bands for the skaters, snack acquisition, promote the event to the Geneva community. (Saturday, January 7, 2012, 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.)
- Annual Silent Auction–Solicit auction donations and catalog advertisements, organize class baskets, chair wine cellar, set up day of auction, assist with drink ticket sales, check in, check out, and more! (Auction will be Saturday, March 24, 2012, 6:30 p.m.) Solicitation Letter 2012_Geneva Day School, Donation Agreement Letter 2012_Geneva Day School, 2012 Auction Ad/Sponsorship Form
- Teacher Appreciation Week–Bake or buy food items for special staff meals or help your child write a letter of appreciation to your teachers. (May 7-11, 2012)
- End-of-Year Picnic and Bake Sale–Bake items for the bake sale, volunteer to coordinate a ride line, sell baked goods during the carnival, and help set up or clean up. (Friday, May 25, 2012)
