Geneva Parents Association (GPA)

Dear Geneva Day School Parents,

On behalf of the Geneva Parents Association (GPA), we would like to welcome you to the 2016-2017 school year! Our names are Norean Qadir and Cindy Chi. We will be co-chairing the position of GPA President together this year. For both of us, this will be our fourth year as Geneva Day School parents.

For those of you who are new to Geneva Day School, the GPA is a volunteer group consisting of parents who meet monthly to discuss issues important to the School and to plan activities that help foster a greater sense of community among our families. These activities include fundraisers, community events, and philanthropic activities. The GPA serves as a bridge between the School and Geneva families. This year’s GPA board also includes Dory Halbe as Vice President, Amy Rogstad and Sarah Nesbitt as co-Treasurers, and Brandi Markham as Secretary.

As the parent of a student at Geneva Day School, you are automatically a member of the GPA and are invited to attend the monthly GPA meetings, which alternate between the second Tuesday evening one month, and Friday morning the next. Childcare is available during our evening meetings. We encourage you to attend these meetings and share your ideas with us. It’s a great way to get involved in your child’s school experience. Parent involvement is vital to making this year’s events a success.

There are many other ways to become involved. One way is to be a Room Parent—parents who volunteer for these positions find that it’s a great way to get to know the teachers and meet other classroom parents. Another way to get involved is to serve on committees or volunteer at GPA events.

Please be sure you to mark your calendar for the these key events at the beginning of  the school year.

These events are casual and fun ways for new and returning parents to connect with the others in the Geneva community and learn about upcoming GPA events.

What is the Geneva Parents Association (GPA)?

The GPA is Geneva Day School’s parents association.  The GPA plans numerous community building activities for Geneva families throughout the school year, including fundraisers, community events, and philanthropic activities.   Funds raised by the GPA are used to offer financial aid to Geneva families and to enrich your children’s school experience.  The GPA also serves as a bridge between the School and Geneva families.

Every Geneva Day School parent is automatically a member of the GPA. Unlike parent associations at other schools, there are no membership dues!  All GPA activities and events are open to all Geneva families.

Geneva Day School parents are invited and encouraged to attend monthly GPA meetings.  Parents are welcome to bring their children when they attend GPA meetings as childcare is provided.  We really want to hear your thoughts and ideas, and it is a great way to get involved in your child’s school experience.

How can I get involved?!We love volunteers

There are lots of ways to get involved with the GPA and at Geneva Day School!  From joining the GPA Board to signing up to work a half-hour shift at a GPA event, the GPA can always use your help.  Whether you are able to give a little of your time or a lot, any amount of time that you can give helps keep the GPA community running smoothly.

Below are some of the ways you can help with the GPA:

  • Chair or volunteer to help with a GPA event: There are many GPA-sponsored events throughout the year which would not be possible without your help.
  • Volunteer to be a GPA Class Representative: A GPA class representative is the liaison between the GPA, parents, and teachers communicating GPA ideas/concerns from your classroom’s parents.  They report GPA needs/ideas back to parents by attending monthly GPA meetings and reporting to the class via email.
  • Volunteer to be a Room Parent: Room parents communicate class events and announcements; arrange for volunteers from class to bring snacks and activities for class parties; collect funds; purchase items and assemble a class basket for the Annual Silent Auction; and more!
